NAMING THE ALAMOSA CENTER THE “TED M. GALLEGOS CENTER.”
WHEREAS, Ted M. Gallegos will be remembered as a very loving, giving, and caring father, grandfather, friend and leader in the community; and
WHEREAS, Ted M. Gallegos touched many lives and inspired many people; and
WHEREAS, Ted, as a young adult, was active in Golden Gloves Boxing competitions and later appointed as Deputy Inspector to the New Mexico Athletic Commission; and
WHEREAS, Ted was co-founder of the La Familia Car club, co-founder and Board member of the Alamosa Neighborhood Association, co-founder and Board member of the Southwest Alliance of Neighbors and the West Central Community Development Group; and
WHEREAS, Ted was an integral part of the Youth Development Incorporated “YDI” family for over 35 years and was an original organizer for Westside Day, a program that transported underprivileged youth to the Legislature and Senate to tour the Roundhouse and see the different facets of government in action; and
WHEREAS, Ted M. Gallegos ran the drop-in center in the low income housing development in the Alamosa neighborhood where he helped raise a generation of kids as a surrogate father and participated in the development of many programs to help change the community in positive ways.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That the Alamosa Center be named the “Ted M. Gallegos Center.”
