ADOPTING THE
ALAMEDA DRAIN &
TRAIL MASTER PLAN TO GUIDE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MULTI-USE
TRAIL ALONG THE
ALAMEDA DRAIN.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque, in partnership with Bernalillo County, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD), and the Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA), commissioned a Master Plan for the development of a multi-use
trail along the
Alameda Drain; and
WHEREAS, the overall intent of the
Alameda Drain &
Trail Master Plan is to enhance the historic
drainage way, creating a shared use path that works in conjunction with the
Alameda Drain and resulting in a more cohesive, aesthetic corridor; and
WHEREAS, the
Alameda Drain &
Trail Master Plan provides a framework for improvements along the nine-mile corridor that runs from Interstate 40 to the northern end of 2nd Street; and
WHEREAS, the plan guides development of a well-connected, enjoyable, and comfortable multi-use
trail along the
Alameda Drain; and
WHEREAS, Bernalillo County has funding to complete construction of a portion of the
trail within the unincorporated areas of the plan, from Monta?o Road to Osuna Road; and
WHEREAS, the City is committed to seeking funding for portions of the
trail within City limits; and
WHEREAS, the majority of MRGCD ditches and
drains in Bernalillo County are accessible and open to the public and the proposed
trail along the
Alameda Drain would continue the trend of enhancing the greenways along the channel as a recreational corridor; and
WHEREAS, recreational uses along MRGCD facilities have increased and benefit local communities; and
