MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ALBUQUERQUE FILM & MEDIA EXPERIENCE FOUNDATION AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE ALBUQUERQUE FILM & MEDIA EXPERIENCE FOUNDATION FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THE 2014 FESTIVAL.
      WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Film & Media Experience Foundation (Foundation) sponsors the annual Albuquerque Film and Media Experience (AFME); and
      WHEREAS, AFME is an event that represents creative achievement in film, music, arts and entertainment; and
      WHEREAS, AFME showcases the City of Albuquerque as a destination for the creative arts; and
      WHEREAS, in 2013, over 5,300 people, of which 70% were Albuquerque residents, attended AFME events and generated $4 million in economic impact; and
      WHEREAS, the 2014 event will showcase International Spotlights on Ireland and India, a Student Art Exhibit, discussion panels on make-up, visual and special effects, cinematography, documentaries and social impact, and casting among other events; and
      WHEREAS, a portion of funds raised through the events will assist the Foundation in supporting organizations that address heroin awareness, child and human trafficking, sexual assault, tissue and organ donation, alcohol abuse and wildlife preservation, to name a few; and
      WHEREAS, the City desires to be a sponsor of AFME; and
      WHEREAS, there is sufficient unreserved fund balance in the General Fund in FY/14 to cover this appropriation.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
      Section 1.  That the following amount is hereby appropriated for Fiscal Year 2014 from unreserved, unencumbered fund balance:
      GENERAL FUND - 110
      Cultural Services Department
            Community Events                              $50,000
