Appropriating FY/14 General Funds To The Fire Department To Establish A Rescue Unit At Fire Station 2 (Benton)

APPROPRIATING FY/14 GENERAL FUNDS TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO ESTABLISH A RESCUE UNIT AT FIRE STATION 2.
      WHEREAS, a transport capable rescue company is operated by paramedics and contains equipment that is available for advanced life saving procedures; and
      WHEREAS, construction of Fire Station 2 was completed in December 2012; and
      WHEREAS,  the new Fire Station 2 currently does not have a rescue company but has the space to accommodate an advanced life support rescue company; and
      WHEREAS, an advanced life support rescue company at Station 2 will reduce rescue response time for residents living in the Station 2 service area; and
      WHEREAS, an advanced life support rescue company at Station 2 will directly reduce response times for Rescues 1 and 3; and
WHEREAS, an advanced life support rescue company at Station 2 will also reduce response times for Rescues 7, 11 and 13, which serve as back-up for Rescues 1 and 3.   
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1.  The following amount is hereby appropriated for Fiscal Year 2014 from available fund balance:
GENERAL FUND - 110
Albuquerque Fire Department
      Emergency Response                              $400,000
      This amount ($400,000) is for staffing and operating expenses for an advanced life support rescue company at Fire Station 2 commencing January 1, 2014.
Section 2.      $269,000 of the balance remaining in activity 7500030, which consists of photo enforcement funding allocated for the construction of Fire Station 2, is hereby designated to purchase a rescue vehicle for an advance life support company located at Fire Station 2.
