Designating Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) In Previously Appropriated Funds To Be Used To Provide Short Term Assistance To Indigent and Needy Clients of The Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) (Jones)

DESIGNATING TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000) IN PREVIOUSLY APPROPRIATED FUNDS TO BE USED TO PROVIDE SHORT TERM ASSISTANCE TO INDIGENT AND NEEDY CLIENTS OF THE CRISIS OUTREACH AND SUPPORT TEAM (COAST).
WHEREAS, the Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) is designed to enhance the Albuquerque Police Department's Crisis Intervention Team; and
WHEREAS, COAST provides a link to resources, services and community education in response to police referrals and citizen requests; and
WHEREAS, COAST provides intervention and prevention services and links to services and community resources for a wide variety of crisis related issues including mental health, runaways, and homelessness; and
WHEREAS, COAST provides training and educational presentations to law enforcement and the community; and
WHEREAS, the COAST unit has developed strong working relationships with local service providers in order to assure a continuum of services for the community; and
WHEREAS, the COAST unit currently refers indigent clients to local resources such as Faith Lutheran Church and St. Timothy's for funding for temporary needs such as a tank of gas, a meal or groceries, and lodging; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Police Department currently contracts with Resources, Inc. to provide certain social services through the Family Advocacy Center; and
WHEREAS, Resources, Inc. has indicated an interest in also providing resources such as gas, food and lodging to clients referred to them by the COAST Unit; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that providing funding for these needy members of our community...
