Approving and Authorizing The Filing of Agreement For a 2010 Solving Cold Cases With DNA Grant With The Department of Justice, U.S. Marshal's Office and Providing For An Appropriation To The City of Albuquerque (Jones)

APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF THE ATTACHED AGREEMENT FOR A 2010 SOLVING COLD CASES WITH DNA GRANT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, U.S. MARSHAL'S OFFICE AND PROVIDING FOR AN APPROPRIATION TO THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE.
      WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has as one of its goals to enhance local law enforcement efforts thereby providing for the public safety and welfare; and
      WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is committed to analyzing additional DNA samples in order to solve cold case crimes; and  
      WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has submitted an application in the amount of $217,972 for a 2010 Solving Cold Cases with DNA Grant; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Police Department will utilize 2010 Solving Cold Cases with DNA Grant funding to contract with an approved vendor to analyze additional DNA samples to increase the likelihood of solving cold cases crimes and provide for training and travel expenses for Cold Case Unit detectives; and  
      WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is desirous of accepting these funds for which indirect costs of $5,998 are required to support this grant and are available in the FY/10 Transfer to Operating Grants Fund Program in the General Fund. FICA charges of $1,481 will be covered by the grant.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
      Section 1.  That the attached grant application is hereby made a part of this resolution, is hereby approved and its submission and filing with the appropriate official or office of the Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice is in all respects approved.  
      Section 2.  That upon award, funds in the amount of $217,972 from the Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice and indirect costs of $5,998 from the Fiscal Year 2010 Transfer to Operating Grants Fund Program in the General Fund are hereby appropriated to the Albuquerque Police Department in the Operating Grants Fund, 265, for Fiscal Year 2010, 2011 and 2012.
