NAMING THE FITNESS CENTER OF LOS VOLCANES SENIOR CENTER, “JOE O. ARMIJO SENIOR FITNESS CENTER.”
WHEREAS, Joe Armijo dedicated his time to the lives and well being of the Senior Citizen's of Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo served his community through his appointment by Mayor Chávez and the Albuquerque City Council as a member of the Department of Senior Affairs Advisory Board for nearly ten years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo served as President of the Department of Senior Affairs Advisory Board, committing his time to enhance the lives of the senior citizens of Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo and his wife Mary Lou Vau Armijo shared their time with other seniors at Los Volcanes Senior breakfasts almost every morning; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo served his Country in World War II and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the New Mexico Court Association, and the New Mexico Officials Association; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo was a devoted husband and father to his 11 children, and a devoted grandfather to his 29 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo participated in senior activities with his wife at Los Volcanes Senior Center and also participated in the Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies for Los Volcanes Fitness Center in July 2008; and
WHEREAS, the family of Joe O. Armijo, the senior citizens of Los Volcanes Senior Center, the senior citizens of Albuquerque, and the community of City Council District One lost a good friend and public servant on April 10, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Joe O. Armijo will be greatly missed and his legacy long remembered.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
