Approving and Authorizing The Filing of Sub-Grant Agreement For a DNA Identification System Grant From The New Mexico Department of Public Safety; Providing an Appropriation To The Police Department (Jones)

APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF THE ATTACHED SUB-GRANT AGREEMENT FOR A DNA IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM GRANT FROM THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND PROVIDING FOR AN APPROPRIATION TO THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has as one of its goals to enhance local law enforcement efforts thereby providing for the public safety and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the DNA Identification System Grant will provide the Albuquerque Police Department Metropolitan Forensic Science Center with the necessary resources to ensure adequate staffing, analyze sex offender registrant DNA samples, and support to meet the DNA Act requirements; and
WHEREAS, grant funds in the amount of $400,000 for this purpose are available from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety; and
WHEREAS, the City is desirous of accepting these funds for which indirect costs in the amount of $9,019 are required to support this grant and are available in the Fiscal Year 2008 Transfer to Operating Grants Fund Program.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That the attached grant agreement for a DNA Identification System is hereby made a part of this resolution, is hereby approved, and its submission and filing with the appropriate official or office of the New Mexico Department of Public Safety is in all respects approved.
