CALLING ON THE ADMINISTRATION TO PLACE THE HIGHEST PRIORITY ON STORM DRAINAGE RENOVATION AND REHABILITATION PROJECTS THAT DIRECTLY AFFECT THE AREAS THAT FLOODED DURING RECENT RAINSTORMS AND TO WORK WITH THE ALBUQUERQUE/BERNALILLO COUNTY WATER UTILITY AUTHORITY TO COORDINATE TESTING, MAINTENANCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES WITH RESPECT TO THE STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, recent heavy rainstorms have shown that there is a significant need for continued upgrades to the City's storm drainage system; and
WHEREAS, these rainstorms have served to highlight those neighborhoods that are in the most urgent need for storm drainage upgrades and improvements; and
WHEREAS, recent events have also highlighted the need for regular monitoring, maintenance and testing of the City's pump stations and related infrastructure as well as the need for an increase in cooperation and communication between the City and the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority; and
WHEREAS, each year the City sets aside millions of dollars for storm drainage improvements from the proceeds of the Basic Services Quarter Cent GRT, and biannually from the proceeds of General Obligation bonds issued for the City's Capital Implementation Program.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
